Sunbird Nkopola has won the 2026 Football Association of Malawi (FAM) National Beach Soccer Club Championship. The team defeated Peninsula Stars 4-1 in the final match held at Arnold's Lakeshore Resort in Nkhotakota. According to Africa Top Sports, the tournament featured a major upset as the defending three-time champions, Beach Eagles of Nkhata Bay, suffered an early exit after finishing at the bottom of Group A without a victory. FAM Vice President Christopher Madalitso Kuyera praised the competitive standard of the matches and noted the steady growth of beach soccer in the country.
Update: The Malawi Flames now have their full group assignments for the 2027 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Following the official draw conducted in Cairo on May 19, the national team was placed in Group B alongside Egypt, Angola, and South Sudan.
