Miss Malawi Pageant Sets K550 Million Budget as Local Music Scene Expands

The Malawian entertainment sector is reporting major financial developments this week. According to The Daily Times, organizers have established a K550 million budget for the Miss Malawi 2026 pageant. In festival news, the upcoming Kumingoli Bash has secured a K20 million sponsorship package to assist with event preparations.

The local music scene is expanding through both classical performances and cross-border collaborations. The Daily Times reports that the Blantyre Music Society is drawing audiences with its classical music events. Additionally, a Lilongwe-based gospel group has recorded a new album featuring a guest appearance by a Norwegian artist.

New music releases continue to surface online. On May 18, popular Malawian musician Ajuh Guffi premiered the official music video for his new track "Ndikula" on YouTube.

Update: Following their recently announced listening sessions, Praise Umali and Onesimus are seeing positive reactions to their respective projects. The Daily Times notes that Blantyre audiences are heavily engaged with Praise Umali's released album. Meanwhile, OkayAfrica reports that the Lilongwe listening event for Onesimus's album "Son of Grace" successfully gathered musicians from Liberia, Zambia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and South Africa to celebrate Malawian Afro-pop.
