More than 250,000 children in Malawi have received support to begin their early childhood education, though stakeholders note that gaps in the sector persist, according to Malawi24. In higher education news, the University of Malawi (UNIMA) has been ranked first in the country for environmental sustainability, Malawi24 reports.

Malawi is hosting two academic conferences this weekend from June 27 to June 28. The International Conference on Education, Learning, and Anthropology is taking place in Lilongwe, while Zomba is hosting the International Conference on Education for Sustainable Futures. According to event organizers, both gatherings have drawn researchers and education professionals to discuss curriculum development and teaching practices.

Meanwhile, Form Four candidates at St. Joseph Nguludi Catholic Secondary School in Chiradzulu were urged to remain focused and maintain integrity ahead of the upcoming Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations. According to AMECEA News, students were advised to stay committed to their studies as they prepare for the final assessments.

Update: The Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) reports a successful concurrent administration of the Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) and Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examinations. Nation Online reports that MANEB spokesperson Angella Kashitigu confirmed all logistical arrangements were completed on schedule. The policy change to administer the PSLCE in June rather than May was intended to increase contact time between Standard Eight learners and their teachers before the exams.
