The Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) has announced plans to redevelop Lilongwe's Malangalanga area into a commercial hub to boost local economic activity. According to Nyasa Times, MHC Chief Executive Bob Chimkango stated that the project will reshape the city's urban layout and attract domestic and international investments. To maximize commercial space, new planning regulations will require all future buildings in the district to be at least three storeys high. Residents currently occupying MHC staff houses in Malangalanga have been issued a 30-day notice to vacate the premises.

In a move to bypass severe foreign exchange shortages, Malawi successfully utilized a World Bank IDA-backed guarantee instrument to unlock critical trade finance. A newly released policy brief from PAC Research, covered by Business Day, cited Malawi as a key example of how new financial structures can overcome credit barriers. The report noted that the instrument enabled the country to import 1,500 metric tonnes of fertiliser ahead of the rainy season despite local businesses being unable to secure international bank credit.
On the domestic business front, the Growth Accelerator programme is expanding support for small and medium-sized enterprises through structured mentorship initiatives, according to MBC. Project Manager Tambulani Chunga noted that pairing emerging entrepreneurs with seasoned business leaders has significantly improved financial management, regulatory compliance, and production systems for local startups, helping them navigate Malawi's current economic climate.
