The Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) has officially released the 2026 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) and Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examination results, with both levels achieving pass rates above 80 percent. According to a Ministry of Education press release, 198,903 out of 245,048 candidates passed the PSLCE, yielding an 81.17 percent pass rate. For the JCE, 125,777 out of 154,880 candidates passed, resulting in an 81.21 percent pass rate.
The examination results show a consistent gender disparity in student performance. According to MANEB, male candidates achieved an 85.69 percent pass rate in the PSLCE, while female candidates recorded a 76.94 percent pass rate. Out of the successful PSLCE candidates, 110,522 have been selected to begin Form 1 in various secondary schools. This selection marks a 55.57 percent transition rate to secondary education.
In the tertiary sector, the University of Malawi (UNIMA) has announced its schedule for the 2026/2027 academic year. According to a university bulletin, classes for new and continuing students will commence on August 31, 2026. The institution has scheduled orientation and registration for first-year and other selected groups between August 24 and August 28. The university administration warned that any student failing to complete registration within this period will automatically be placed on temporary withdrawal for the entire academic year.
