Malawian artist Black Nina has been unveiled as the voice behind the official theme song for the 2026 National Youth Summit. The track, titled "MOTSO", was officially released on Saturday morning by the National Youth Council of Malawi. According to the council, the song captures the energy and creativity of the nation's young people and aligns with the summit's theme of accelerating progress and youth development. The summit is scheduled to take place from August 18 to August 20 at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.
In international music news, the recently released compilation album "Sounds of Malawi Vol. 1" has received global praise. On Thursday, the international pop culture publication PopMatters published a highly positive review of the album, which was recorded in Blantyre and produced by Hen House Records. PopMatters praised the project, which was organised by Malawian ethnomusicologist Waliko Makhala, Jacaranda Foundation director Luc Deschamps, and producer Harlan Steinberger, for expanding the global understanding of contemporary Malawian creativity.
Meanwhile, celebrations for the annual Mdauku wa Atonga cultural festival, commonly known as MWATO, are currently underway in Nkhata Bay. According to the Malawi News Agency, Francis Zuwawo, the Principal Secretary for Administration in the Ministry of Youth and Culture, arrived at the Msani Heritage Centre on Saturday to serve as the guest of honour for the festivities.
