Update: President Peter Mutharika has returned to Malawi from an 11-day private visit to South Africa, arriving at Kamuzu International Airport on August 15 as speculation mounts over a potential cabinet reshuffle, according to Nyasa Times. Malawi24 reports that this was the President's fourth private trip to South Africa since returning to office in October 2025. Following the President's return, First Vice President Jane Ansah publicly dismissed succession rumors and declared her loyalty to the Democratic Progressive Party. Local media note her statement comes as she continues to be excluded from major diplomatic assignments.

Update: Second Vice President Enock Kamzingeni Chihana arrived in Durban on August 15 to represent Malawi at the SADC Organ Troika Summit on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation. During the August 16 proceedings, Chihana officially handed over the chairship of the SADC Organ to the Kingdom of Eswatini. According to the SADC Secretariat, he urged member states to implement recent security decisions and maintain regional constitutional order.

In legal news, motorcycle dealership and football sponsor KingBoss Investment is facing a money-laundering investigation after authorities arrested two Tanzanian nationals with $1.14 million in cash. Nyasa Times reports that the suspects are allegedly linked to the company and now face illegal currency possession charges before the Chief Resident Magistrate's Court in Mzuzu. The Reserve Bank of Malawi confirmed the cash haul included a single counterfeit $100 note.

Update: The Malawi Congress Party has dropped its contempt case related to the Malawi Electoral Commission. However, Malawi24 indicates that the underlying injunction preventing the commission's relocation to Blantyre remains in place, meaning the broader legal fight over the electoral body is not yet over.
