Update: Following the release of the 2026 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) and Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) results by the Malawi National Examinations Board, education campaigners are pressing the government to address a continuing gender gap. According to Nation Online, male PSLCE candidates recorded an 85.69 percent pass rate compared to 76.94 percent for females. A similar trend appeared at the JCE level, with boys achieving an 84.04 percent pass rate against 78.49 percent for girls.
In higher education news, Smile Life Insurance Company has donated K5 million to the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) Endowment Fund. AMECEA News reports that the financial contribution, presented by Chief Executive Officer Beatrice Mangwana, is designed to help needy and deserving students access university education.
Meanwhile, 31 young women at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) have secured support to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) degrees. According to Malawi24, Illovo Sugar Malawi funded a K71.3 million scholarship disbursement to provide the students an opportunity to advance their education without the burden of financial strain.
