China-Malawi Gala Illuminates Lilongwe as First Lady Celebrates Scorchers' WAFCON Success

In cultural news, Lilongwe hosted the "Lights Across the Sky: A China-Malawi Symphony Gala" at the Bingu International Convention Centre on Friday, according to the Malawi News Agency. The event celebrated cultural exchanges and the 77th anniversary of the People's Republic of China. It featured a 500-drone light performance that illuminated the city's skyline. Several government officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs George Chaponda, attended the music and technology event.

In celebrity news, the divorce hearing between Tapiwa Chakwera, daughter of former President Lazarus Chakwera, and her husband Sean Kampondeni was adjourned on Wednesday, Nyasa Times reports. The court proceeding was delayed due to network and communication difficulties, as one of the parties is currently outside the country. A new date for the virtual hearing has not yet been announced.

Update: Following the Malawi Scorchers' recent return from the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, First Lady Gertrude Mutharika joined the team's victory celebrations during a state luncheon at Kamuzu Palace, according to Nyasa Times. The First Lady danced to the team's morale songs and posed for a series of photographs with the players to celebrate their success at the tournament.

In local music, artist Dr. Namadingo is scheduled to perform in Karonga for the first time in his career. According to event organizers, the live concert is set for Friday night at the Karonga Museum.
