Marking World Teachers' Day, Minister of Education Bright Msaka announced that the government will recruit 1,100 secondary school teachers to manage class sizes following the rollout of free secondary education, according to The Malawi Guardian. In his October 5 address, Msaka stressed that supported and professionally developed teachers are required for the country to achieve its Malawi 2063 development goals, MBC reports.

Meanwhile, students with disabilities are demanding direct involvement in shaping inclusive education policies and climate action plans. Speaking at a policy dialogue at the University of Malawi, Empowering Young Minds Executive Director Temwa Zidana urged government officials to consult with affected students rather than relying on assumptions, according to Malawi24. Zomba District Council representatives attended the session and committed to addressing the daily barriers facing students with disabilities at local colleges.

Update: Providing more details on the People Over Politics Foundation student stipends, founder Vitumbiko Mumba officially launched a K1 billion fund in Lilongwe to support disadvantaged university students over the next five years. According to Nation Online, the initiative will cover basic living expenses such as food and accommodation, allowing young people from low-income backgrounds to focus on their academic work rather than basic survival.
