The Malawi Parliament has adjourned sine die following the conclusion of its eight-week 2026/2027 Budget Meeting, according to the official Parliament of Malawi website. Leader of the House Jappie Mhango reported that the session successfully concluded with the passage of six legislative bills and the approval of the K10.98 trillion National Budget. Speaker of Parliament Sameer Suleman formally commended lawmakers for their participation throughout the session's debates.
Following the budget's passage, Speaker Suleman directed the Budget and Finance Committee and other parliamentary bodies to actively monitor the execution of the new national budget, Nation Online reports. Speaking at an oversight dialogue organized by the African Institute for Development Policy and MISA Malawi, Suleman stated that the role of lawmakers extends beyond simply passing the budget. He challenged the financial committees to address ongoing issues like procurement delays and poor financial coordination to ensure public funds are used effectively for citizens.
